Studio Process in Focus

Each sculpture begins as a conversation – with site, with materials, and with the people who will live alongside the work. In the Leeds studio, sketches and models evolve into full-scale pieces through iterative making, testing, and refinement.

01 · Concept & maquettes

We translate early ideas into hand-built maquettes and digital studies, exploring proportion, balance, and the flow of form before committing to final scale.

02 · Material testing

Surface samples and structural tests allow us to understand how bronze, resin, reclaimed metal, or carved wood will respond to light, touch, and time.

03 · Fabrication & finishing

From armatures and casting to meticulous hand-finishing, every piece is resolved with close attention to joinery, tactility, and long-term durability.

04 · On-site install

We choreograph delivery and installation around your space, coordinating technical requirements so the work feels seamlessly integrated from day one.

Material Storytelling

Material is our starting language. Bronze, resin, reclaimed metals, and carved wood each carry their own histories, weights, and temperatures – we listen to these qualities and draw them into the narrative of every sculpture.

Bronze

Used for its permanence and gravitas, bronze allows for subtle, hand-worked surfaces that capture light and shadow with remarkable depth.

Resin

Lightweight yet robust, resin supports ambitious forms and delicate edges, ideal for large-scale pieces where weight and logistics are critical.

Reclaimed metals

Reclaimed steel and aluminium introduce traces of previous lives – patina, abrasion, and repair – into new sculptural narratives.

Carved wood

Warm, tactile, and inherently human, carved timber brings subtle grain and natural variation that make each piece singular.

Every surface is a decision: from matte, chalky finishes to burnished metallic sheens, we choreograph how a work feels under hand as much as how it reads from across the room.

Commissioned Artworks

From intimate works for private homes to public realm statements, each commission is developed as a dialogue between client, architecture, and context.

Private collectors

Tailored for homes and personal collections

We collaborate closely with collectors to develop works that respond to existing collections, light conditions, and daily rituals within the home.

  • Bespoke sizing and plinth design
  • Colour and finish studies for specific interiors
  • Discrete installation and conservation advice

Exhibition Highlights

Our sculptural work is regularly shown in galleries and design-led spaces, often as part of immersive environments where sound, light, and circulation are choreographed around each piece.

Looped Lines

A series of modular, wall-based sculptures curated as a continuous horizon line, encouraging visitors to track movement and colour across the room.

Material Field

Clustered floor works in varying heights that draw viewers into the centre of the installation, shifting perspective as they navigate between pieces.

Graphite Drift

An installation of graphite-finished forms that recede into shadow, revealing subtle texture only at close proximity.

For curators and galleries, we offer detailed exhibition packs with technical drawings, handling instructions, and installation timelines.

Statement Pieces

Large-scale and technically ambitious works that push material, engineering, and composition – conceived as anchors for lobbies, courtyards, and public squares.

Threshold Form

A multi-part sculpture that frames circulation through a space, creating a shifting sense of enclosure as visitors move between its vertical planes.

  • Engineered for both interior and sheltered exterior locations
  • Customisable height and span to suit existing architecture
  • Available in bronze, resin, or graphite-finished metal

Orbital Field

An arrangement of circular elements suspended at differing heights, reading as a constellation from below and a quiet graphic from above.

  • Ideal for atria, stair voids, and double-height spaces
  • Lightweight construction with integrated suspension details
  • Tailored lighting studies available on request

Meet the Sculpture Team

The sculptural arm of LOOP & FORM LTD brings together artists, fabricators, and technicians who share a commitment to material experimentation and precise delivery.

Lead Sculptor

Concept, form, and material direction

Guides the conceptual development of each sculptural series, drawing on references from architecture, landforms, and minimalist art history to shape a coherent body of work.

Focus: large-scale commissions, public art

Fabrication Lead

Engineering & technical delivery

Translates sculptural intent into buildable structures, coordinating armatures, casting, welding, and fixings that are as considered as the final surface.

Focus: complex structures, site-specific installs

Surface & Finish Specialist

Texture, patina, and colour

Oversees the layering of pigments, patinas, and protective coatings, ensuring each work has a distinct tactile identity and appropriate protection for its environment.

Focus: patination, conservation-led detailing

Project & Client Lead

Briefs, timelines, and communication

Acts as the central contact for clients, ensuring that the sculptural process – from concept to installation – is transparent, collaborative, and precisely managed.

Sculpture Care & Installation

Each work is delivered with clear guidance for handling, installation, and long-term care, tailored to whether the piece is placed indoors, outdoors, or in a high-traffic environment.

Display & placement

We recommend positions that respect circulation routes, sightlines, and light sources so the work feels integrated rather than added-on.

Structural safety

Fixings, anchoring systems, and weight considerations are specified in advance, with engineering input where required.

Cleaning & maintenance

Simple, material-specific cleaning routines protect surfaces while preserving patina and intended ageing.

Environmental conditions

We advise on humidity, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations, especially for outdoor and semi-exterior installations.

Detailed care sheets are supplied with each work and can be reissued for facilities teams or conservation specialists on request.

Sculpture FAQs

Practical details on commissioning, installing, and caring for sculptural works from LOOP & FORM LTD.

We begin with an initial conversation to understand your space, budget, and timescales. From there we share early concepts and material directions, followed by sketches or maquettes. Once a proposal is agreed, we confirm technical details, schedule, and pricing before moving into fabrication and installation planning.

For an overview of how this translates into different project types, please visit our Commissions page.

For exterior and semi-exterior locations we typically recommend bronze, treated reclaimed metals, or outdoor-grade resin systems. Each is finished with coatings and fixings designed to withstand weather exposure while ageing in a controlled, intentional way.

During the briefing phase we will discuss your site's climate, orientation, and maintenance capacity to suggest the most appropriate options.

Resin is highly resilient when specified and finished correctly, especially for interior projects or covered exterior spaces. Bronze is more suited to fully exposed outdoor locations or where a longer-term patina is desired. We provide tailored guidance on expected ageing and maintenance for each material.

Yes. For most projects we manage specialist art transport and on-site installation, or collaborate with your appointed contractors. We supply handling notes, installation drawings, and risk assessments where required.

For complex sites, we may recommend a pre-install site visit or remote review to confirm access, fixing points, and sequencing.

Care routines depend on the material and location. Most interior works require only gentle dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth. For bronze, metal, or outdoor pieces we outline suitable cleaning agents, frequencies, and things to avoid, such as abrasive pads or strong solvents.

If in doubt, please contact us before undertaking any restoration or deep cleaning.

Lead times vary with scale and complexity. Smaller interior works may require 8–12 weeks from brief to installation, while large-scale or multi-part commissions can take 4–9 months. We will always confirm an indicative schedule at proposal stage.

If you have a fixed launch or opening date, share this early so we can shape the process around it.
